Located in Sebastopol, The Songbird Hospital was founded in 2004 by Veronica Bowers. Veronica has been working exclusively with passerines since 1998. Passerines are a diverse group of birds that require a high level of specialized and well-managed care. Recognizing this and understanding that passerines thrive in an environment that supports their specific needs, Veronica created a program through Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue that is dedicated to the rehabilitation and healthy release of native passerines.
The Songbird Hospital is supported entirely by donations and volunteer staff. It is a program of Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue and operates under the United States Fish and Wildlife Service and California Department of Fish and Game permits and licenses issued to SCWR.
Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue cares for injured birds of prey and mammals. SCWR is a non-profit organization. To learn more about SCWR please visit the link to their website on our Resources page.
Veronica is also a devoted and active volunteer for WildCare in San Rafael, serving as a songbird specialist and providing foster care for insectivores at The Songbird Hospital. To learn more about WildCare, please visit the link to their website on our Resources page.
